Skiing in the Italian Alps
In the heart of the Italian South Tyrol, the Seiseralm is a magnificent
plateau ringed by the Dolomites. The largest plateau in Europe, the
beautifully forested and gently undulating terrain provides a wonderful
winter playground. Nestled beneath the plateau is Castelrotto (also
known as Kastelruth), a delightful village with breathtaking mountain
views, an onion-domed church and sturdy houses brightly painted in the
Tyrolean style. A cable car transfers villagers each day between
Castelrotto and the Seiseralm.
At an elevation of 1700-2000 meters, snow is usually good in Castelrotto
from November and there is plenty of sunshine. The cross-country skiing
is outstanding for all levels while the downhill skiing is excellent for
beginners and intermediate skiers; ice skating and tobogganing are
additional options. A horse-drawn sleigh ride adds a magical atmosphere
for all the family.
Posthotel Lamm
Located in Castelrotto’s beautiful square, the Posthotel Lamm combines
the atmosphere of traditional 200-year old inn with all the comforts of
a modern and stylish hotel. Accommodation consists of large rooms with
private facilities and telephone. The restaurant features marvellous
cuisine combining Austrian and Italian influences. The hotel also has an
indoor swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi for the use of its guests.
