The city of Aswan is the southern terminus for our
Nile Cruises and contains many
interesting monuments. Taking a boat ride out to the Ptolemaic temple at
the Island of Philae is an idyllic excursion. There is also the granite
quarry, where much of the stone for the temples came from. An unfinished
obelisk, which cracked before it was completed, is a fascinating exhibit
here. The city has a laid-back feel to it and is best enjoyed by taking
a felucca boat trip out to the botanical gardens at Kitchener’s Island
or across to the Aga Khan’s Mausoleum.
A few days in Aswan is a delightful way to enjoy Egypt at an easy pace.
We recommend the
Aswan Movenpick Island Resort - a smart hotel on an island in the
Nile, with all the modern amenities that you could wish for.
A stay in Aswan can easily be combined with a
Nile Cruise to Luxor or with a visit to Abu
Simbel. You can even get to Abu Simbel by taking another Nile Cruise
- on Lake Nasser with the
Movenpick Prince Abbas.
